Things To Do in Boulder & Denver with Your Kids This Summer
This summer is the perfect time to get outdoors. Here are 10 summer activities you can do with your kids while maintaining social distancing and enjoying the beauty of the Front Range!
Fun Summer Activities for Kids in Boulder
Get outside and enjoy our beautiful outdoors. Try hiking at Dowdy Draw trailhead for a wide path with a mild incline and a tranquil meandering creek. Check out Tracy Kane’s book “Fairy Houses” before your hike and build a few along your way.
Dust off those pool noodles and grab some balloons for a fun game of “pool noodle baseball.” The game’s object is to hit the balloon back and forth without it dropping to the ground. It’s harder than you think! Head to North Boulder Park or Harlow Platts Community Park for a change of scenery.
Boulder is loaded with bike-related opportunities, both on the road and on dirt. Valmont Bike Park is open to the public and has mountain bike trails for every level, even our littlest of riders on striders!
The Boulder Kids’ Fishing Pond is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon. The pond is well stocked with fish for catch and release fun for hours on end! Bring spin or fly rods; all are welcome.
Or, how about a scavenger hunt on Pearl Street Mall? Create a fun list of sights. Options include the frog in the playground near the Boulder Arts coop, and the fountain in front of the city building. Start your hunt on either side of the pedestrian mall. Walk the whole thing, so you don’t miss any of the incredible blooms along the way.
Fun Summer Activities for Kids in Denver
Take a bike ride along the Cherry Creek Trail. The 14-mile path is suitable for all skill levels and follows alongside a river, featuring multiple parks and the Cherry Creek mall.
Visit the Denver Botanical Gardens to connect with the outdoors by viewing an extensive collection of plants from around the world. Make a reservation before you go – the gardens allow a capped number of visitors at appointed times.
Hike one of the Red Rocks Park trails. Red Rocks Park features beautiful sandstone rock formations and a beautiful view of downtown Denver at the top of the amphitheater.
Walk around City Park in Denver and fill out this scavenger hunt. See who can fill the most letters during your walk!
Have a family picnic at Denver’s largest park, Washington Park. It is a 155-acre park with room to kick a soccer ball or throw a football after your picnic. There is also a walking trail with multiple gardens and a lake to enjoy.
